Nokia Lumia 920

Published on: 04 February 2025 Category: mobile phones

I finally had some time to get my Lumia 920 up and running. It was in the box of phones I got earlier. It had a dead battery, which I replaced and tinkered with the charging chip to get it working again.

It is a piece coming from 2013, with 8.7 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It should also be able to be charged by wireless chargers, but I do not have any, so I have not tried it yet.

The phone came with Windows 8, but to be able to do some sideloading, I had it updated to Windows 10 using a third-party tool (because the original servers are dead).

I tried a few games to see what the hardware could do. I installed NFS Undercover, but it crashes when I start the races.

I also installed Asphalt 5. It runs well and smoothly and is a nice piece of arcade racing.

Asphalt 7 also works, but is a little slower due to the better graphics, but is still comfortable to play.

I also found a mobile version of Mirrors Edge. This is a game I really liked when I saw it many years ago, when my schoolmate was playing it on his notebook and I had no hardware capable of running it. However, the mobile version is... non 3D and really simple. Actually it is very similar to the Android game "Vector".

What I also wanted to try was Sonic. It is a classic 2D platformer runner game, and at first glance it looks good. However... for Sonic, the touch controls are not so good, and also the graphics, as it is 2D, also has some 3D "vibes" and tries to make it modern, as it does not have the special feeling of the original.

The last screenshot is from a survicraft. I only tried it for a few minutes, but it looks very complex and very detailed. I just tried to run across the island I appeared on and dug some block of dirt, but the animation of the animals and the amount of different blocks/things/creatures I met during that time looks really good. I will definitely give it a try later.

I also tried Terraria (offline), which runs really smoothly. Unfortunately I do not have a screenshot.

Terraria is a game I always wanted to try, but never did. I also tried it for a few minutes, but I ran into a problem where I could not dig the "grass" tiles. With the pixkaxe I dug stone, iron and dirt just under the grass, but I was not able to dig/cut through the grass layer to get to the underground. It is also a game I will definitely try again later. If you know what I am doing wrong with digging through the grass, please let me know in the comments.
